Negative Automatic Thought - Emotional Reasoning

Thinking errors (Negative Automatic Thoughts) play a central part in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and there are now many ways in which they are categorised. Essentially they represent the different biases people use when making appraisals about themselves, others or the world at large.

The lyrics from Love is All Around provide a lovely example of Emotional Reasoning - the tendency to base appraisals of a situation on emotional reactions rather than recognising - in line with the basic tenets of the CBT model - that these feelings themselves arise from a cognitive interpretation which may lie beyond conscious awareness.
