Eastbourne Estrangement

Sitting apart,
those once so close,
meeting in a Southern resort
and then returning to a bomb-ravaged city -
she to tend the sick,
he to tend the machines.

Eastbourne.
The start of so much,
to end like this -
apart,
strangers to each other's emotions,
behind a marriage mask born of years
of the need to deceive,
to remain strong when the other falls,
see-sawing through time
until they both fell together,
the see-saw became a jig-saw
and the therapist tries to
to assemble the pieces.
